Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a chain last on one waxing?
In dry road conditions, you can count on completely silent operation for approximately 650 to 1000 kilometers. When riding in wet, muddy, or dusty conditions (MTB/Gravel), the interval shortens. As soon as the chain becomes audible, it's time for a quick re-application. However, the advantage is that your drivetrain remains perfectly clean and does not wear down throughout this period.
Do I need to degrease the chain before the first waxing?
Absolutely. And that applies even if you have a brand-new chain straight out of the box. Factory grease or residues of old oil would prevent the wax from adhering to the metal. We recommend a thorough bath in technical benzine followed by isopropyl alcohol (IPA) until the chain is perfectly clean.
How does re-waxing work? Is it complicated?
Rewaxing takes only a few minutes. This is because there is no need for chemical degreasing. All you have to do is remove the chain, rinse it with boiling water, let it dry, and then immerse it directly back into the molten VS / Labs wax bath.
How long will one pack of wax last me?
Our Tungsten Armory (6-Pack) will serve as the perfect base for creating your initial bath. This bath will last for up to two dozen dips, depending on the container used. During the season, you simply need to add a puck from our Refill pack as needed to maintain the correct level in the pot. One 6-Pack will easily cover the entire season for an average rider.
Is VS / Labs wax also suitable for MTB and Gravel?
Yes, and that's where you'll notice a huge difference! Regular oil collects dust and sand, creating a black abrasive paste that destroys expensive cassettes. Our wax, once hardened, is non-sticky. Dust simply falls off, protecting components even in the most demanding conditions.
